I may live to regret this, but I’ve decided to extend this never-ending conversation once again.
Kathy, this time, it would be a nice change of pace if you would actually address what William has repeatedly been saying to you:
I have. Not saying i’m perfect at it or that I’m right, but the “evidences” you listed arent real evidences. And since you refuse to look at things that are counter to your current beliefs, how can you honestly speak to me about evidences?
here’s all I’ve seen you provide:
1) martyrs, even though every religion and many non-religions have them.
2) our very existence – which no one knows how that started, but even if you must land on god(s), you must go back to that book of claims to get to jesus.
3) there were miracles, but as it turns out, those dont happen today, and end up being more claims by the same men who claim they speak for god.
4) the fulfilled prophecies we’ve discussed weren’t really prophecies at all, or had to be viewed so figuratively that it’s difficult to show anything precise about them other than location (maybe) in order to claim they’re actually fulfilled.
5) 40 authors taking 1500 years to write the bible. But there’s nothing miraculous about men writing books, editing books, and being inspired to write a book or letter after reading an older book.
About that last point, if the Bible had been written by 1500 people scattered across the globe, who didn’t know one another, and they did it in 40 days, then you’d really have something incredible. But 40-ish people, all familiar with the Jewish god, and writing over a long period of time with the previous writings as reference, is not that impressive.
I did get a kick out of that! I guess I assumed you were probably my age, or maybe a little older? But I was surfing the comments on the post where this all started (Kathy), and you told someone you were a juvenile. I guess without hearing the inflection in your voice, I wasn’t sure if you were joking or not!
I am a juvenile as well though, at least compared to Arch! Lol! He’s ancient you know? I am 31. I was 17 when I enlisted, and 20 when I deployed. None of that is relevant though. Does it change how you read my comments? Age is nothing but a number

William is not a juvenile, Laurie – I won’t betray confidences, but I think the two of you might have a lot to talk about – take his advice and email him.
BTW – how’s the head?

Just ran across this on another site – had to share it:
Sorry Nate, I wasn’t trying to ignore you, but I didn’t read all the comments in order, and was a bit confused.
I believe that the light he saw was Lucifer. I don’t have time to post all the scriptures now, but Messiah warned of this event. He gave us the twelve apostles, and warned us of the Pharisees, wolves in sheeps clothing, false apostles that would teach to eat meat sacrificed to idols, and so on. He said not to be led astray by someone claiming to see him in the desert, or wilderness. He also said the false apostle was like Balaam. Compare the story of Paul’s, with that of Balaam. They are alike in many ways.

I kinda figured, but couldn’t resist asking. He sounds brilliant, and I love to run into young people like that, you know… People with common sense (that sense that seems so uncommon these days) ;)!
It’s stopped bleeding for the most part, unless I bend down to pick something up. It feels fine though.
If you are ever going to tile you bathroom though, don’t use 18″ travertine. And don’t put it on the ceiling in the shower. When it falls off, it ruins your day, and leaves a big ugly scar! I know that sounds insanely stupid, don’t tell anyone! Lol! And stop making me laugh, that actually make it bleed! Gotta run!

Laurie,
“This is my last comment to you until you actually want to discuss what I have posted. Why should I give you “part 2″? You’re right, this is time consuming…. for me!
These are all examples of how Paul contradicts Messiah. Read them and we will discuss. Or don’t, but I will not continue to waste my time with you. If anyone else wants to talk about it, I’ll be around! Have a great day guys! And you as well Kathy, shalom!”
Laurie,
I’ll gladly address each of these, but this isn’t what I’ve been asking you, repeatedly now..
These examples of Paul supposedly going against Jesus’ words have a context.. Paul’s AND Jesus’ words have context attached to them. So, again, we can debate each of those.. but, what I’m asking you is about the OVERALL context.. there’s no point in addressing these smaller things until we establish the overall context. You seem very smart, so I’m sure you can understand my point here.
What is the overall context YOU are claiming? What is the overall plan that explains why God would have His Son suffer and die on the cross??? So far, all you’ve claimed is that it’s all about symbolism.. again, this is irrational. Jesus suffered greatly.. and He is GOD.. there MUST be a reasonable answer for my question.. and you haven’t given it yet..
I can’t focus on the “contradictions” until I understand the broader point.. there is no point in doing so.
You’ve given no explanation that makes more sense than what Paul has given in scripture..
So, this is why I keep asking this question.. if there is a more reasonable explanation, I WANT to know what it is.. but you keep ignoring my question/ point.

Ruth,
Your constant whining about how God is “blackmailing” you to love Him is just sad.
Children could say the same about their parents.
You fail to acknowledge God’s position as YOUR CREATOR. The Creator of everything. You
continue to ignore or have reverence for your position in relation to Him. Instead you choose to feel threatened and offended. This is pure pride and ego.

Your constant belaboring this point of all points is just sad. Don’t you have a response to the actual points I made. This was just a sidebar and it wasn’t even addressed to you per se.

I might add that I wasn’t whining in the least. You continued to press about it. You asked the questions. So i answered your questions. That is all.

There are parents who emotionally blackmail their children. You don’t seem to understand that one cannot command love. It’s not even that your God commands love. He commands love a specific way. If you threatened your child with punishment if she didn’t love you in a particular way then, yes, that would be blackmail.
This isn’t whining. This is just explaining to you what should be blatantly obvious yet you seem oblivious to.
If God were real, and he were so great, he wouldn’t need to threaten people into loving him.
Let me ask you, Kathy, do you love our government? Would you love your mother if she threatened to burn you with cigarettes if you didn’t? You’d probably think she was out of her tree, and rightfully so. Yet you believe that God is just in creating and allowing people to suffer for being slighted.

Oh, good god, Kathy, I’m not doing the work for you. You go back through the comments, I’m not doing it for you. I made several comments including scripture and Bible study reference tools. If you want to focus on the minor instead of the major be my guest.

Hi Matt
you said:
“One more thing before work this am, what’s with all this liberal vs conservative stuff? I like to label myself as a personally conservative libertarian but don’t see how it matters. Kathy are saying the more liberal you are the more apt to non belief you are predisposition to be? Or do you just think liberals are evil in general?
I hate that you are at odds with the few fellow believers that have commented on all of this.”
Matt, liberal and conservative views have a lot to do with Christianity. Can you name one exclusively liberal belief ( beliefs that conservatives disagree with) that is in line with Christian teachings? On the other hand, Conservative beliefs line up fully with Christian teachings.
It’s the liberal movement/ agenda that is trying to remove Christianity from society. Liberals are in complete opposition to God.
And I’m “at odds” with Laurie because she is claiming that Christianity is a false religion lead by Paul. My “odds” are with her lack of coherent explanation of the theology she adheres to.. and her unwillingness to address my questions. All she does is post scripture passages but can’t seem to articulate anything in her own words. Everyone thinks I’m being rude/ mean to her.. but it’s just my frustration because of her deliberate (and dishonest) avoidance of my questions that I’ve had to repeat over and over.

“lead” is an element
“led” is the past tense of the verb “lead,” as in “She led them on a wild goose chase.”

Kathy, if you think liberals are trying to remove Christianity from society, then you really don’t understand what’s going on. Did you think the equal rights movement was an effort to remove white people from society?
When people don’t want their government institutions to publicly endorse Christianity, they’re only asking for the Constitution to be respected, since we have no state religion. Individuals are free to exercise any religion they like — or not. But no one wants to have a particular flavor forced down their throats anymore than we want the government to tell us which NFL team we should root for.
