You? Never, sweet lady – talking to Paul. I thought that quoting him made that clear. He made the comment, then you quoted him and I responded to your comment, rather than dig back through my files and find his original – lazy of me? Sure – hey, nobody’s perfect. Sorry for the confusion, but you should have known better. (See, now I made it all YOUR fault! Bwahahahaha!)
this is my cousin, a former pastor now serving time in fed prison for molesting his 2 stepdaughters, starting when they turned 12 yrs and lasting until the oldest turned 16.
absolutely disgusting.
as awful as that is, what made it even more depraved were his parishioners,
who claimed he could never do that because he was a “true man of god” and that the girls were “lying”. if you read some of the comments on that blog, you will get the idea of how blind and stupid his supporters were.
just sick.
and all the members of my own family, all xtians, they didn’t believe it either until the moment he confessed in court in order to get a lighter sentence.
i knew he was guilty immediately,
why?
because they all are, every time.
everyone got so pissed at me for not believing his denials.
thankfully that sick fuck is locked up.
he wrote me a letter after his incarceration,
i had just had a surgery due to an HIV related illness.
in his letter, he wrote:
“looks like you and i are both in prisons of our own making”
and that “satan had made him do it”
and i “needed to come to jesus to be saved and go to heaven”
everyday i hope he gets gang raped in prison.
if i ever see that idiot ever again in my lifetime,
i most definitely am going to beat his sorry little ass.
What I failed to mention is that the founder of the cult of 700 sects began his ministry at the time he was committing incest with his youngest daughter for 10 years until his son-in-law found out and came into his office waving a gun.
The cult leader was filled with the Spirit. We know that because he was often found naked in hotel rooms drunk.
Members’ reaction: He brought us the truth and everybody has flaws.
To be fair, and only if you are interested, you can get some of the details at britishisraelism.com and you can read “The Spectacular Failure of British Israelism”.
I think most of my friends know I’m an atheist. I really don’t care who knows it. More people don’t know that I’m also in recovery from addiction. Well, I don’t know if I can technically say that since I haven’t been to a 12 Step meeting in years. Either way, addicts are not much loved either. People will say things about addicts to me, not even thinking that I could be in that group.
My daughter was abused physically and verbally by her step-mother, a convicted felon with “Psalm 23” on her license plate. There are several who think she played a part in my ex-husband’s sudden death at age 45. She was questioned by the police, but not charged. She was the last person to see him alive.
This, along with my mom being abused as a kid by her southern Baptist father, has been pooh-poohed by Christians as an invalid reason for me to reject Christianity. As has been illustrated recently in this thread, people will excuse almost any behavior when they are so indoctrinated they can’t see the truth. I don’t reject Christianity because of this – I don’t believe it because it does not explain the world, life, and the cosmos sufficiently for me. I reject it on its merits, or lack thereof.
Not sure if this has been covered before, but I would like to highlight that the NT is really not a very good “evidence” for jesus/god EVEN if they are verified eye witnesses.
Take a look at this episode of Brain Games on the National Geographic Channel:
people on the show can’t even remember an incident 2 weeks after it has happened, and there are embellishment and “contaminated” memories (all explained in the show). Are we really suppose to believe the NT which is written at least 10 years (I’m being generous) after the fact?
I don’t believe it because it does not explain the world, life, and the cosmos sufficiently for me. – Gliese
This resonates with me and is one of the reasons I could no longer maintain a Christian worldview. There were just too many things that did not add up. I’ll give two examples:
1. The curse of spreading the gospel: Most Christians believe that anyone who does not hear about the gospel will be judged based on their overall performance in life. In which case they would be better off if they did not hear the gospel then hear it and possibly not believe it. Or Christians believe those who do not hear the gospel are lost to hell which is entirely unjust.
2. The curse of sin: Christians blame so much on the fall of Adam and Eve, but the only curse actually mentioned is hard labor for men and hard birthing for women. Christians reinterpret this passage so that the entire universe is cursed with countless curses because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience: Earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes, famine, pestilence, floods, wildfires, mental disabilities, blindness, deafness, aids/hiv, leukemia, birth defects, cancers, malaria, Ebola, autism, dementia, diabetes, miscarriage, you name it – they stuff it into that passage.
Are we really suppose to believe the NT which is written at least 10 years (I’m being generous) after the fact?
That’s probably too generous, but I get your point. Add to this the fact that whoever passed down the stories and whoever wrote the gospels were trying to convince others to join “The Way” creates a scenario where embellishments are likely to occur.
“Are we really suppose to believe the NT which is written at least 10 years (I’m being generous) after the fact?” – OVERLY generous, Powell – try 40 years (Mark) to 70+ years (John).
Interesting site you suggested, I’ve bookmarked it. I suggest also the segment regarding “followers.” It complements some of what Neuronotes has taught us about the human tendency to follow blindly.
Yeah I do know the scholarly consensus about that dates of NT. However I prefer to stick to 10 years – which is the earliest that some people has mentioned with regards to Matthew (very old school teaching which stated that Matthew is the 1st gospel which most people would now know is wrong). This is to prevent nut cases like Kathy to start diverting the point away.
Speaking of which, this comment section has really quieten down eh? Only a handful of posts between my current and my previous post. Usually we would have added at least 20+ to 100+ on a good day.
I think you’ll find, Powell, that Mark was written first, its prose is much more primitive, and the anonymous authors of Matthew and Luke copied from him, then enlarged on his story – how much more likely is that, than that Matthew wrote his first, then Mark copied it and dumbed it down?
“Speaking of which, this comment section has really quieten down eh?” – I couldn’t help noticing that (a), Kathy hasn’t put in an appearance for the past couple of days, and (b), Nate’s membership dropped from 301, to 300. Coincidence? Or did our friendly resident theist and whack-job leave and pull her membership?
Fully agree on the Mark/Matthew. I’m of the opinion that Mark is written first as well.
This is yet another poignant point – the church actually believed that Matthew came first for a huge portion of their faith before finally accepting that Mark is the first. I’m talking about mainstream apologetics of course.
Re: Kathy
I am actually glad that she’s gone tbh. I’m sure she’ll think that is because i’m scared of ur debating and argumentative prowess but I think I’m just too tired to see crazy people online. If I really want to engage these idiots I would go youtube comment section lol.
arch, I’m sure Kathy figured her party is over here,

she is twatting to greg gutfeld of fox news, even though he blocked her.
so hilariously pathetic.
Finally, a visual that represents what I think when someone makes this silly claim:

10 years after the fact?
Try 300 years after the supposed events.
Actually, the Koran is better off, because it was only 150 years after Mohammed that someone put it together.
Think Emperor Constantine. 300 years. That’s longer than the United States has been incorporated.
And we can’t even agree what happened on the grassy knoll in 1963.
Lots of time, not much documentation, no provenance.
It would be so much easier if Jesus just put up a Facebook page, you know?
Or would Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, James and Paul put it up for him?
Faith is fine, but somewhere along the way we need a reality check.
