Well, after breaking 2000 comments on the previous thread, I think it’s time to move to a new one. Feel free to continue the conversation here.
Also, I want to make a note about future posts. The tone on this blog for the last month or so has been decidedly different than what it used to be. While that’s definitely made things interesting, I’d like to move back to a tone more in line with the way things used to be. So going forward, I want the comments on all new posts to remain civil. We can all make our points, and I expect to see a wide range of opinions. But I don’t want to get into name-calling and bashing when we can’t all agree on particular issues. Let’s try to stay focused on the points and not get side-tracked with personal stuff. Let’s also keep each comment substantive so we don’t rack up so many comments in such a short period of time that it’s hard for everyone to keep track.
If you don’t feel like you can participate within those guidelines, then feel free to continue posting within this thread (and any future “Kathy” threads, if they’re needed), because I won’t be enforcing any guidelines here. But if you want to comment on any other posts, you’ll need to abide by the rules I just laid out. Otherwise, your comment will be subject to deletion, and after a warning, you might find yourself banned from at least that thread, if not the entire blog.
If there are any questions, let me know.
Thanks
“Maybe you don’t want to be rude but that’s exactly how it’s coming across. And even AFTER I’ve told you that you continue to do it anyway. You must be the biggest idiot ever. ”
boo hoo Ruth.. boo hoo. It would be much worse for me to lie to you and tell you that you “are” objective. Dishonesty and lying is wrong, I don’t know who dropped the ball in telling you all this, but it’s a basic fundamental fact of life…. and there’s a good reason for that.. because dishonesty is destructive. Lying to yourself that you are objective is only hurting you.. certainly not me or any other rational person.. who KNOWS you lack objectivity.
ok, time to move on now. You all can be deliberately ignorant amongst yourselves, in your own little world of make believe known as “Lib Land”. Just keep on destroying society and the country of TRUE freedom that God built and protected. That’s all going bye bye.. thanks to liberals and your incredible prideful denial and blatant DELIBERATE ignorance. This country is the last left in the world fighting off destructive liberalism, but the stupidity is strong even here.. let the illegals in, they’ll vote for the party that gives them the govt. hand outs.. that they unfortunately need because democrats don’t know how to create jobs.. and pretty soon all the people who ARE working and forced to pay more in taxes than they get to keep.. to SUPPORT all those not working, including the millions of illegals.. they will all eventually get sick of it and LEAVE… and then you’ll see how YOU/ liberals DESTROYED the greatest country to ever exist.
And it’s this VERY same deliberate ignorance that you all have in regards to your Creator. And I’m not being un Christian for saying so.. this blatant ignorance is addressed in the Bible.. you see the evidence all around you and you CHOOSE to ignore it. Remember.. you all have NO BETTER explanation! Not even a “theory”/ supposition. But yet, you all “know” God isn’t your Creator. You’re the great great great great great…. great cousin of “pond scum”. lol.. liberals..

Looking back I remember the accusation of being a liar. It can’t be helped in my not so humble lying position. Satan is the author of lies and I suspect that many “Christians” who believe this won’t move past the idea that Satan has influenced us, pride, ego and all. It looks like we might be having a conversation, a discussion or even a debate but if all we ever are from the get to is a liar, there is no discussion.

I agree Zoe – we are declared liars at the start simply because our conclusions are different. It can’t even be possible that we are only wrong – we must be liars as well. There’s no possibility for any true discussion there.

“let the illegals in, they’ll vote for the party that gives them the govt. hand outs..” – I guess the one thing, more than any other, that has amazed me so much these past few weeks, is that you always have so much to say on subjects about which you know so little. I’ve lived on both sides of the border, and I can tell you first-hand that Mexicans work harder than any three Americans – they still have the work ethic that we’ve allowed machines to take away from us – you can blame that one on technology.
“let the illegals in, they’ll vote for the party that gives them the govt. hand outs..” – my guess is, that’s what the Native Americans said when they saw your people coming.

The problem, Zoe, is that someone, somewhere, sometime, told Kathy she was good at debating, and THAT lie, she believed!

They neglected to tell her that when you come to the podium, you need to bring actual evidence, that a rousing chorus of “Feelings,” just isn’t gonna cut it.

It appears that, in the beginning, what was called a debate was always an attempt at evangelism and an attempt to force a particular ideology. It was never a fair exchange. Because as Howie and Zoe said we were all deemed liars and dishonest from the beginning. Even to the point of changing the definitions of the words objective and respect to mean honesty. It’s impossible to have a debate when there are no rules and people can just make up new definitions for words as they go along.
As for my objectivity…meh. I copped a long time ago to probably not being as objective as I think I am. If only everyone could look at themselves objectively enough to know that we all have biases. Usually if you have to announce and keep announcing a trait about yourself it means you likely are not that thing.
In closing, I’m sorry guys. I did let my emotions get the better of me on several occasions and especially toward the end. I’ve just never…not ever…had anyone try to evangelize me in this particular fashion before. I’m…bemused.

you just can’t reason with unreasonable people.
Her latest tirade is pretty telling. She wont discuss the subject matter and she ignores the questions and points given to her only to go on a wild tangent about liberals destroying the country and illegals crossing the boarder…
Despite her annoyance and dim-witted-ness, I have more pity than anything else for her.

kathy thinks that THE GOD is on her side, so in her mind, she’s not a great debater because of herself, but because god speaks through her. She believes that God loves her, knows her intimately and wants what’s best for her and wants to bless her….
… and she calls us arrogant and prideful…
maybe the “discussion” would have been more profitable if she actually spent time trying to present better evidence than martyrs, or by actually trying to answer the points, instead of screaming “liberals,” “liars,” and “reverse ignorance” at every opportunity.
Congratulations, Kathy. You look insane.

In the beginning, I didn’t realize it was a debate – her “debating style,” if one could call it that, was so unprofessional, I didn’t recognize that it was intended as anything more than a discussion, until she vehemently announced that it was, in fact, a debate – which left me wondering when she intended starting debating. I’m still wondering.
I’ve never known anyone so clearly biased, to condemn bias so strongly, yet praise the objectivity that she so plainly lacks. In essence, all of the qualities she manifests, she appears to hold in disdain, which would imply not only a significant degree of self-loathing, but an inability to recognize in one’s self, traits imagined in others. I’m sure that Neuro has some insight on that particular psychological idiosyncrasy.

Thanks, ratamacue0. I figured she would leave the conversation with either a martyr’s complex or the conclusion that it is all of us who are the problem. It can’t be her.
The fact is I don’t have a problem with the fact that she believes in God. She’s perfectly entitled to that. It is her right. Just as it is mine not to. I see where she gets what she believes because I’ve been subjected to/subjected myself to a lot of that same teaching. So I can see it from her perspective even if I don’t agree with it.
But, yes, the whole tirade about illegals and liberals destroying the country…wow. What she probably doesn’t realize is that there’s a whole lot of conservative farmers and construction workers out there trying to keep those illegals here. Because Americans won’t do that work.

To be honest, arch, I didn’t know it was a debate until she announced it either. And announced that all comment sections on all blogs were debate forums. I had no idea.

“debate” is a contest, where two opposing sides try to win an argument and score points. It’s not an exercise in objectivity nor is it a pursuit for knowledge or truth.
Opposing sides come together with preconceived notions and the only intention of making the better argument for a predetermined time with preset rules. basically a football match played with words.
If i wanted to play an exciting game I’d spear hunt armed homeless people who are hopped up on speed and bath salts.
If i want to talk about a subject, i want to do it honestly and with the intention of discovery and coming to better understanding of truth – not scoring points or winning the “best zinger award.”

I definitely wasn’t that.

And try as we might to get a civil discourse it wasn’t that either.
After weeks of lots of back and forth I’m really not sure what this was. It seemed more like chastisement and scolding with the thought that we’d be shamed into submission?

agreed. I do think Kathy came to the table with debate/instructing/teaching in mind, with no intention of learning or contemplating a different view.
“Yikes! I don’t want to live where ever you’re from.”
Dont knock it until you try it.
But you mean to tell me that you don’t think that would be exciting?
and of course I was joking (and I’m sure you realized that) – but if you’re ever up this way, I’m sure we could make something happen… I kid, i kid… unless you want to.

Three questions, William:
1. Do you need a license for that?
2. Do you have any favorite recipes?
3. Are they as tough and stringy as they look (probably take a lot of marinating, huh?)?

sometimes when i catch them, I ask them to say, “Shiboleth.” if they say “siboleth” I don’t let them go… anyone want to give the passage to that biblical reference?
