I normally use oils on my canvas and reserve the wine for my stomach, but sure, try it, if it works, it works, if it doesn’t, you’ve still learned something new.
Arch, that’s how I feel about it. The work that I have posted within the last year is work that I did in soft pastel. It’s my first time using color, as before I never could unlock the medium’s potential. All prior work was done in black and white (graphite pencil), and that was nearly 20 years ago. If I produced anything in between, it largely went unfinished or got discarded and art was largely absent in my life for that time period. A friend of mine believes that the recent unlocking of color mediums to me as an artist is no coincidence in the shedding of my religious husk. He finds it an intriguing study of human psychology, and calls it an “immense breakthrough in the art of the mind reconciling the human condition.”
“He finds it an intriguing study of human psychology, and calls it an ‘immense breakthrough in the art of the mind reconciling the human condition.’” – Well, that certainly beats, “That’s nice.“
BARRY, I’m an artist, too. this is one of the last things I painted, it is cut out of plywood so all of the white area is negative space. one of my fav pieces.
I will sign up for instagram so I can check your stuff out.
by the way, my st paulie girrlll!!! account got suspended from making comments because I told a some Christian whining about how Christians are being persecuted about baking gay cakes that “i couldn’t wait for Christians to start suffering real persecution.”
William, my art studio is almost up and running and then I can start on those wine paintings. Have to keep my wife happy. My art supplies keep cluttering up the dining room when I do a piece and I currently store them in the home office – her office and “dance studio.” It bugs her taking up the space.
On a related note (as it relates to the “dance studio”) the whole losing religion thing has become somewhat of a family affair with me and my wife. Once I started climbing out of the pit, it became her turn. As part of the hang ups religion caused in her life, she’s taken to pole dancing with a group of women. She always wanted to be a dancer, but her family (mostly her father I believe) was not to keen on letting her express herself, and that includes being “pretty.” They were a strict Catholic family drowned in alcohol.
Pole dancing is her therapeutic outlet as a result. Her father, however, is not to keen on it. Her mother (now divorced from the father) is thrilled though, which is interesting.
Oh, and if you’re wondering – no, I don’t get to watch. It’s strictly for her. There have been occasions where she’ll show me an amazingly powerful technique, but it’s all her sort of thing. I find enjoyment in that.
Yes, wine as watercolor. I figured as much. As for pictures of my wife pole dancing, well of course I do! 😉 What fun would it be without them! But I didn’t say I’d share! 😮
🙂 Yup, Arch, I totally got it! Speaking of my wife, she gave me a nice surprise last night: she bought an easel I had my eye on for the studio downstairs. Now it’s just a matter of time for me to begin the paintings!
Vaudeville was the original variety show, all of America’s early comedians got their start there, or based their routines on comedy acts that originated there.
Wish me luck! Should the stars align, I will be interviewing for a writing position with an education advocacy group in Alexandria, VA. Would be a bit of a trek for the first six months of employment, but then I have telecommuting at my disposal. Pay is decent too. Now I just have to dust of the interview skills because I suck at them right now.
Thanks, Carmen! I did a brief interview with the headhunter and didn’t find myself to be the great communicator that I try to be. I need practice! Looks like I am going to need to rehearse.

Do it, Barry.
“Do it. And let the English see you do it.”
The pics you put on Instagram are very good. I’d like to see the one in wine when you’re done.

yes, it could be, but it’s in the bible, so it’s god’s threat, not mine

“I can start on those wine paintings” – I would just treat it as watercolor.
Re Your wife’s pole dancing, you wouldn’t happen to have any pictures of that —

Paul, I find the placement of Eve’s head in relation to Adam just a tad suggestive…glaringly obvious suggestive.

Barry, you misunderstood – I was wondering if you wanted to buy some —

Old Vaudeville gag, Barry – “Do you have any naked pictures of your wife?” – “No.” “Wanna buy some?” Padumpump!
